another iPhone headphone issue trick…

Recently, The Unofficial Apple Weblog posted an interesting article in which the writer suggested using a can of compressed air to resolve the issue he had with his iPhone, which was the iPhone was registering the headphones were in, when they really were not.

While the can of compressed air works well, another good trick for this situation is grabbing your headphones, and putting the jack in an out of the iPhone repeatedly. I had read that on the Apple Forums awhile back, and it fixes the same exact issue EVERY time.

Anyone else have tips to share? comment below…

UPDATED! I added the Unofficial Apple Weblog to the links section on the right hand side of the site. Besides the iPhone coverage, they are a great resource for all things Apple.

While I may spend $400 or so dollars on a phone, I like to keep all the accessories at a reasonably low cost. For that, I do some shooping on everything I buy for the phone. There are quite a few chargers out there, for a lot of money, so finding an affordable charger that works well takes a bit of time. It looks like I found an adequate affordable charger with the Griffin PowerJolt Car Charger for the iPhone and iPod.

The main reason I needed a charger was I was going on a trip which most likely needed some juice while on the road. I was flying, and the seat I was assigned offered a 12v charger slot, so I went looking for one, as I didn’t want to run out of power halfway through the flight.

Not only will this charger work in your car plane, or anywhere with a 12v connection, but also doubles as a sync cable if you need it. Quite handy for traveling, as this took up ZERO space in my laptop bag.

The construction is sturdy, and feels well put together, and does exactly what it says it does: Charges your iPhone or iPod.

Cons: while it works well, the charge time was a little slow for my liking. I am used to the fast charging of the regular plug included with the iPhone, and was kinda bummed when it took much longer to bring the iPhone to a full charge, but I am kinda spoiled I guess in that department.

Price: I see it listed for $19.99 on their website, which is exactly what I paid for it at Target. I do suggest shopping around, as you could always find these a bit cheaper.

Okay, so my Motorola Razr finally died, and i couldn’t be happier. In two weeks the new iPhone comes out (July 11, 2008) which means i have a justified reason for getting it.  I’m looking forward to all the nifty things you can do with it too, that i’m hoping will make my life easier.

1. Internet access that will actually look like the internet that I’m used to. I mean i like my Google home page, and now ill be actually able to see it on something other than my computer. How cool is that? My husband actually has an iPhone already, which is why i know about it, and envy it and he yanks it out every time i have some off the wall question, like the other night i wanted to know what Les Miserables was about.

2. The ability to check my emails without it taking forever. I like how fast i send an email to my husband and he gets it on his iPhone just as quick as he would if he looked at it on his computer.

3. And the biggest thing, the fact that i will be able to type it all out quick with the actual keyboard on it, because i don’t know about the rest of you, but hitting the key 2-3 times to get to the letter was DRIVING ME CRAZY, especially when i hit it too quick, going over the actual letter i wanted,  which meant going through it all again.

4. I also like the fact that i can put pictures on it that will be nice and crisp sort of a 21st century “brag book”.  I also LOVE the map feature. It knows where you are, even when you have no clue.

Now i am no big executive or anything, i’m a work at home mom, but having the ability to do all of the those things above means i can actually now spend less time in front of my computer, and spend it taking my daughter to the park more often or play outside more. And the great thing is, if I need to check email or  something, I dont need my computer with me.

I will just pop out my iPhone and voila!

Thank you Apple!

iPhone to be an iTunes remote

generic-remote-control-shallow-focusDevelopers got a pre release of iTunes 7.7 last night, and in the readme file was this juicy little tidbit:

“Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home — a free download from the App Store.”

So, a free remote app from the App store. This is awesome! I like having the possibility of changing tracks etc in my iTunes when I am not that close to my computer. I am getting more and more excited for the App Store!!!

So, I spent most of last week traveling for my job. I went to Chicago for a few days, and was so glad I had an iPhone with me. It was great watching two movies I have not seen yet on my iPhone. It did get me wondering, do people normally watch full movies on their iPhone?

I would assume that the every day user doesn’t. The screen is beautiful, and the sound is perfect in the headphones, but with the screen being relatively small, I dont see the ordinary user watching anything more than a video podcast or a TV show.

I personally use the iPhone for movie watching quite often. Whether I am waiting for my wife to finish shopping at the mall, or want the background noise of a movie playing while I work, I probably spend about 4 hours a week using the iPhone for its movies and television watching.

How do YOU use the movies feature on your iPhone?
